Taylor Swift has been proposed to receive a special award from the City of London for the success of her eight-night The Eras Tour concert in the British capital.
Metro reported that the Liberal Democrat party is said to have proposed giving the prestigious Freedom of the City award to the London Boy singer because The Eras Tour has boosted London’s economy.
During the eight-night concert at Wembley Stadium, which was divided into two phases, The Eras Tour is predicted to generate income for the city worth 300 million pounds.
ITV even said that within a five-kilometer range of Wembley Stadium, hotels, bars, and restaurants earned a total of 1 million pounds per night the concert took place.
The City of London government then spoke out regarding Taylor Swift’s chances of receiving the special award. However, they do not seem to be completely firm about whether or not to give the award.
“Calls for pop legend @taylorswift13 to be awarded the Freedom of the City of London for boosting the capital’s economy makes the front page of @MetroUK,” wrote the City of London Government.
“One of our proudest and most ancient traditions, the Freedom of the City of London can be awarded by the City of London Corporation to recognise an individual’s outstanding achievements or a unique contribution to London or public life,” he continued.
@CityPolicyChair Chris Hayward says in the article, “If Taylor Swift were to be nominated to receive the Freedom and was happy to attend the ceremony, we have no doubt that she would have the best day in the City of London, exploring all of the cultural and historical highlights that we have here in the Square Mile.”
